Pixel Pitch

The center-to-center distance between adjacent LED pixels, usually measured in millimeters. Smaller pitch generally means higher pixel density.

Refresh Rate

The number of times the displayed image is refreshed per second. Higher refresh rate can provide more camera margin, but actual on-camera performance also depends on scan, PWM and system settings.

16-bit

Grayscale

The number of brightness levels available for each color channel. Grayscale performance is especially important for smooth gradients and low-brightness image detail.

Nits

A unit of luminance used to describe display brightness. Required brightness depends on ambient light, daylight exposure, viewing conditions and operating schedule.

Scan Rate

The driving method that determines how groups of LED rows are activated. Scan architecture can influence brightness, grayscale margin and camera behavior.

PWM

Pulse-Width Modulation

A control method used to regulate LED brightness through rapid switching. PWM behavior can affect low-brightness performance and camera compatibility.

RGB / White Balance

Calibration

The process of adjusting brightness and color output across LED modules or pixels to improve uniformity and consistency.

W × H ÷ Pitch

Native Resolution

The actual number of physical pixels in the LED display. It is determined by screen dimensions and pixel pitch rather than by content resolution alone.

Quick Definitions

Technical terms in plain engineering language

COB
Chip-on-Board. An LED packaging method where LED chips are mounted and encapsulated directly on the board, often used in fine-pitch applications.
Front Maintenance
A service method where modules, power supplies or internal components can be accessed from the front of the LED display, reducing the need for rear service space.
Grayscale
The number of brightness levels the system can reproduce. Higher effective grayscale can improve gradients and low-brightness detail.
HDR
High Dynamic Range. A display and content approach designed to reproduce a wider range of brightness and color information.
IP Rating
A standardized protection code that describes resistance to solids and water. For example, IP65 and IP66 indicate different levels of environmental protection.
LED Module
A replaceable display unit containing LEDs and supporting electronics. Multiple modules are assembled into cabinets or larger display structures.
Moiré
An interference pattern that can appear when a camera sensor interacts with the repeating pixel structure of an LED display.
Nits
A luminance unit equal to candela per square meter. It is commonly used to specify LED display brightness.
Pixel Pitch
The physical distance between neighboring pixel centers, measured in millimeters. It is a key input for viewing distance and native resolution.
PWM
Pulse-Width Modulation. A method of controlling LED brightness by rapidly switching the LED output on and off.
Refresh Rate
The number of screen refresh cycles per second, measured in hertz. Common LED display specifications include 1920 Hz, 3840 Hz and 7680 Hz.
Rear Maintenance
A service method requiring technicians to access components from behind the display, usually requiring dedicated rear clearance or a service corridor.
Scan Rate
The ratio describing how LED rows are multiplexed during driving. Common examples include 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32 scan.
SMD
Surface-Mounted Device. A common LED packaging method where packaged LEDs are mounted onto the module PCB.
Viewing Distance
The distance between the viewer and the LED display. The closest important viewing distance is a major input when selecting pixel pitch.
White Balance
The adjustment of red, green and blue output so that neutral white is reproduced consistently at the intended color temperature.
