A retail LED display should be designed as part of the interior, storefront or merchandising system. The correct specification depends on the closest viewer, content detail, available wall depth, ambient light, architectural geometry and maintenance direction.

Closest Viewing Distance

Pixel pitch should begin with the closest realistic customer viewing position, then be checked against content detail, active screen size and budget. A store can require several pixel pitches across storefront, brand wall and hospitality zones.

Low-Brightness Image Quality

Indoor retail screens normally operate well below maximum luminance. Grayscale performance, black level, color consistency and calibration at normal operating brightness matter more than a high peak-nit figure.

03 / Service Architecture

Front service and rear service solve different retail constraints.

Maintenance direction should be fixed with the store construction drawings. It affects wall depth, cabinet selection, cable routing, extraction space and the way technicians reach modules and electronics.

When the LED wall sits against the architecture.

Front-service modules reduce the need for a conventional rear service corridor. This is useful for feature walls, flagship stores and shallow retail fit-outs where every millimeter of wall depth matters.

Engineering note

Service direction is not a marketing feature to select in isolation. Confirm cabinet depth, module removal path, power-supply access, receiving-card access, cable bend radius, ventilation and safe working clearance before the interior design is frozen.

01 What pixel pitch is suitable for a retail LED wall viewed from 2–5 m?
The correct pitch depends on the closest viewer, screen dimensions and required image detail. Close-viewing brand walls commonly need a finer pitch than storefront or atrium displays. Product photography, typography and premium brand content usually justify testing several pitch options against the real viewing distance before approval.
02 How bright should a retail LED display be?
Indoor retail screens normally require far less luminance than outdoor displays. Window-facing screens may need additional output because of daylight and glass reflections. Specify both maximum luminance and normal operating luminance, then verify grayscale, contrast and visual comfort at the intended brightness setting.
03 Is COB or SMD better for a premium retail LED wall?
Both technologies can be appropriate. COB can offer a protected, smooth front surface and strong close-viewing characteristics, while SMD remains widely available with flexible service options and broad product choice. Compare actual pixel pitch, surface reflection, black level, service method and lifecycle requirements.
04 Should a retail LED wall use front or rear maintenance?
Use front service when the LED wall is built tight against the finished architecture and routine components need to be removed from the display face. Rear service can be preferable where a technical corridor or shop-window cavity already provides safe access behind the screen. Confirm extraction space, cable bend radius, ventilation and component access before the structure is finalized.
05 Can an LED display follow a curved retail wall?
Yes, when the cabinet or flexible-module architecture supports the required radius. The curve should be defined before production so module geometry, cabinet mapping, structural tolerance and content distortion can be checked against the finished interior.
06 When is a dual-sided LED display useful in retail?
Dual-sided LED is useful where customers approach from two directions, such as storefront windows, mall atriums, entrances and suspended circulation displays. Define the viewing distance, brightness, native resolution and content mode for each face. DualView can run synchronized or independent content by face.
07 What information is needed for a retail LED quotation?
Provide active screen dimensions, closest viewing distance, store drawings or photographs, flat or curved geometry, ambient-light conditions, service direction, content type, project country and opening schedule.
